Fred’s life was defined by hard work and an unwavering commitment to his profession. For over two decades, he was a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 3, serving as a heavy equipment operator from 2003 until his passing. His hands and skill shaped the very ground we walk on. Whether he was moving earth for major projects or meticulously paving roads, Fred approached every job with a level of precision and dedication that earned him the respect of everyone on the worksite. Before his tenure at Local 3, he spent eight years as a laborer, operator, and paver at A&K Earth Movers and later worked in road construction for Precision Pipeline. He carried the pride of a man who understood that building infrastructure is about building the future for the community.
Born and raised in the high desert of Nevada, Fred was a product of his hometown. He attended Churchill County High School and Fernley High School, graduating in 1994. That local connection never left him. He walked the same streets and worked the same land that he grew up on, always giving back to the community that shaped him.
Beyond the construction sites and the roar of heavy machinery, Fred was first and foremost a family man. His marriage to Melissa on October 14, 2007, was the foundation of his life, and his devotion to his children was evident to all who knew him. He was a father who showed up, a brother who offered steadfast support, and a son who made his parents proud.
Fred leaves behind a legacy of integrity, grit, and love. He taught us that a job done well is a job worth doing, but that the most important work we can do is the work of loving our families. Rest in peace, Fred. Your earthmoving days are over, but the foundation you built for your family and community will last forever. You will be deeply missed.
